We enjoyed a fun-filled April with so many free events! One program that was favored by our customers was in honor of National Poetry Month. We hosted "A Potpourri of Poetry: Featured Poets and an Open Mic" on April 21. Our program included many talented poets including Nancy Naomi Carlson, Indran Amirthanayagam and the Blair High School Slam Team.
If you missed any of our April events, don't worry. We have many more to come.
We are holding a free Meditation Class: An Anecdote to Stress on Tuesday, May 15, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Facilitated by long time meditator, David Newcomb, explore the healing power of meditation and learn how to create peace in your life despite the stress around you. No registration is required for this event.
On May 19, from 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM, we will have a free hands-on workshop to learn watercolor basics for teens and adults. Local art teacher, Firouzeh Sadeghi, will provide a wonderful afternoon of fun and basic techniques. All materials are supplied. Registration is required and there is currently a wait list for this event. Click here for more details!
If you haven't heard about MCPL's new program, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, then you're missing out. This is a fun way to help prepare your child for kindergarten. Anytime you read a book (repeats count!), sing a song, do a fingerplay, read a poem or attend one of our storytimes, your child can color in a shell to log each activity. You can sign up at your local library or online through Beanstack. Each time you complete a log, take it to your local library to receive your next log along with a fun incentive. You can sign up anytime and it's free!

Next time you're in Kensington, stop by to see our May garden display or maybe even see some local goslings make their way through our parking lot! While supplies last, ask the Information Desk for a free compost bin to make your own organic soil!

We have a ton of fun programs lined up for June so stay tuned for next month's blog post and check out our Schedule of Events page regularly to see newly posted upcoming events! Until next time!
