Turning Over A New Leaf At Your Local Library

Summer has ended and school has started but that doesn't mean the fun has stopped at the Kensington Park Library! Our September calendar is loaded with exciting events and cool crafts for all to enjoy!  Before we delve into all of our programs, we want to send a huge congratulations to the finishers and participants of the Summer Read and Learn Challenge!  We had hundreds of children and teens sign up this summer.  You all rock!

Starting this September, we are introducing a new format to our Wednesday storytimes! Every Wednesday at 10:30 AM we have a Baby Storytime for our youngest library customers, created for ages 0-23 months. This is a special program designed where the baby is held in the caregiver's lap and the grownup will actively participate with the baby during the presentation. Following this event, at 11:15 AM, we have a Storytime for Toddlers and Preschoolers, similar to our previous Family Storytimes. These are designed to introduce young children, ages 24 months to 5 years, to the culture of reading and further develop their language skills.

In addition to our early Wednesday storytimes, we now have a Pajama Storytime every Monday at 7:00 PM!  This program will delight children of all ages and will encourage children to develop a lifelong love of reading and learning using language skills and imagination!  Children are encouraged to wear their favorite, coziest pair of PJ's but it is not a requirement to attend!  All of our storytimes are 20-30 minutes long and introduce a diverse collection of books, songs, rhymes and bounces. No registration is required. Pop in with your little ones and invite your family and friends then come check out some books after the program!

Hispanic Heritage Month Display
We are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and Classical Music Month in many ways during the month of September! On September 22nd, we hosted, "Salsa in the Afternoon". Maritza Rivera, local dancer and poet, taught basic steps of salsa dancing! Later that afternoon, percussionist Luis Garay, performed classical, jazz and Afro-Latin World Music. This high energy duo performance was wonderful and interactive. 

If you didn't think we could possibly squeeze anything else in on Saturday, September 22nd, think again! We had a couple of craft events leading up to the the Luis Garay performance. At 1:30 PM  preschool and elementary school-aged children made their own egg shakers! Make your own music to go along with the show! Elementary school-aged children decorated our sidewalks with chalk in honor of Classical Music Month!
