November is STEM time

Eiffel Tower made of marshmallows and sticks
Marshm'Eiffel tower
November starts out with some very exciting activities.  Of course, the mid-term election is on Tuesday, November 6, so, don't forget to go the polls and vote in this very important election. And for children who are lucky enough to have the day off, come on by the Kensington Park Library at 10:30 AM and jump into a fun program with marshmallows and sticks for the Marshmallow Building Challenge. S'mores you might guess? No, not quite as tasty and sticky.  But, we will be building wonderful STEM projects.  See what kind of structure you can come up with.  We started with the Eiffel Tower.  What will you make?

Later on that day, Tuesday, November 6 at 4:00 PM, we will be showing the family movie, "A Wrinkle in Time." Following the discovery of a new form of space travel as well as Meg's father's disappearance, she, her brother, and her friend must join three magical beings to travel across the universe to rescue him from a terrible evil. The movie is rated PG.

Adopt-A-Pet
Also special this month is a family program on adopting a pet on Saturday, November 10 at 12:00 PM.  Have you been considering adding a new member to your family?  Or just want to see what's involved?  The Montgomery County Humane Society will be sharing what it takes to bring home a pet. And, there will even be some pets on hand of the type of animals available for adoption.  The whole family may not want to go home empty-handed.

To help get you in a calm and happy mood for the holidays, take our meditation class on Tuesday, November 13 at 6:00 PM.  On the next day,  Wednesday, November 14 at 12:30 PM the book discussion group will meet this early due to the thanksgiving holiday.  The book title for this month is "The Namesake" by Jhumpa Lahiri.

National Peanut Butter Lover's Month.  Which is your favorite: Smooth or Chunky? Make your choice known by voting on our window display.

And of course, this month is Thanksgiving.  We wish everyone a joyous and safe holiday.
